Sharing The Love

Fans of The Wonder Stuff are a loyal bunch.  We've endured good times and bad and there are a core who, like myself, are keen to promote the group's work and try to raise the public's awareness of them for no reward just because we love them so.

Fans are the ones who know other way of advertising that may not normally be thought of - they know the little record stores just off the main streets, the best music websites, they're members of other newsgroups and forums, they may even have contacts in the media.

Sharing The Love is all about giving fans the opportunity to promote the group through ad campaigns, promotional material or even contacting your local radio stations to get the group's new releases played.  And the best thing is that all it takes is just a few minutes and hardly any cost (unless you're thinking of mass-producing a series of flyers etc!).

Some ideas for promoting the group include:

  • Distribute flyers at local venues, pubs, or gigs.  It is generally a good idea to ask the club first for permission to pass materials out if you are planning on doing it inside. Alternatively, standing outside near the exit handing items out might present the best opportunity for getting to the most people as they leave the show.

  • Call local radio stations to request Wonder Stuff songs - especially songs from the new album or any singles that get released.

  • Call or e-mail local newspapers, magazines, college papers, etc. and have them post listings of the group's upcoming gigs in their concert sections, including gig info, address, times, ticket price, etc.

  • Submit album/single/DVD reviews to websites such as Amazon etc.

However... don’t harass people as this can be counter-productive.  Be respectful of any place that you post and do not spam sites with multiple posts!

Remember that, none of this is official promotion and has not been sanctioned by the group, record company or management and you cannot claim to be working on their behalf.
